Who we are
kilowatts.io is run by Kilowatts.io Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 10378895), registered office 35 Bellever Close, Princetown, Yelverton PL20 6RT, United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
For anything about your data, email privacy@kilowatts.io.
This policy covers the kilowatts.io app on iOS, Android and the web, and the kilowatts.io website.
What we collect
- Account data. Your email address and how you signed in (Apple, Google or an emailed code). If you use Sign in with Apple and hide your email, we receive Apple's relay address and treat it as your address.
- Subscription status. Whether you have a paid subscription, where you bought it (App Store, Google Play or our website) and when it renews. We never see your card details.
- A device identifier. A random ID created by the app and stored on your device, used to keep you signed in and to prevent abuse. It is not your phone's advertising ID.
- Push notification token, only if you turn notifications on. Deleted when you turn them off or sign out.
- Service logs. Records of requests to our servers, used to keep the service running and investigate faults. They contain your account ID but no other personal data.
- Crash reports. If the app crashes, a report of what went wrong is sent to us with personal identifiers removed.
- Beta waitlist. If you join the app waitlist at kilowatts.io/beta, your email address, and your name and platform preference if you give them.
We do not collect your contacts, photos, calendar or browsing history, and we do not use advertising trackers. The electricity data shown in kilowatts.io is about the GB power system, not about you.
How we use it, and our legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis |

Who we share it with
We use these providers to run the service. Each only receives what it needs.
- Apple and Google process in-app payments and sign-in.
- Stripe processes payments made on our website.
- RevenueCat keeps track of subscriptions across App Store, Google Play and the web. It receives your kilowatts.io account ID and purchase records.
- Amazon Web Services hosts our servers and database in London (eu-west-2), runs sign-in (Cognito) and sends our emails (SES).
- Cloudflare provides DNS and network protection in front of our servers.
- Sentry receives crash reports with personal identifiers removed.
- Expo passes push notifications on to Apple and Google, if you turn them on.
- Vercel hosts the kilowatts.io website.
- Getwaitlist runs the app beta waitlist, if you join it.
We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Where your data is stored
Our servers and database are in the UK (AWS London). Some providers above process data in the EU or the US. Where data leaves the UK we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Account data: while your account exists. Deleted within 30 days of you deleting your account.
- Payment records: as long as UK tax law requires (currently six years).
- Service logs and crash reports: up to 90 days.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) or at kilowatts.io/delete-account. Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Cancel that separately in your phone's subscription settings.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct, delete or move your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. Email privacy@kilowatts.io and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
kilowatts.io is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
If we make a significant change, we will tell you in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect.
